The New Legacy Cultural Center (NLCC) Traditional Instrument Tour is an educational outreach program that introduces students to the beauty and history of traditional Chinese music. Each spring, professional musicians from NLCC visit Lexington Public Schools to perform live demonstrations on instruments such as the guzheng (Chinese zither), erhu (two-string fiddle), and Chinese drums.
The program blends performance and hands-on learning, inviting students and teachers to experience the instruments up close and even try playing them. Through storytelling and cultural context, musicians help students understand how music connects people across cultures and time.
In collaboration with the Performing Arts Department, and Lexington Community Education (LCE), the tour enhances classroom learning, supports multicultural education, and fosters appreciation for global arts traditions. Each year, hundreds of students benefit from this inspiring and interactive musical experience.
